Certification Update

    Hello,

    This comes to you from Beth Baldowin, the Certification Chair for Jefferson County Human Resource Management Association (JCHRMA).

    If you plan to take a certification exam (PHR, SPHR or GPHR) this coming winter, now is the time to start thinking about submitting your application!


    For a chapter member, JCHRMA pays the test sitting fee one time (provided the chapter member’s employer will not fund the expense).

    To prepare for the exam, consider these alternatives:

    • JCHRMA owns a copy of the HR Certification Institute’s official PHR and SPHR Certification Guide (SHRM Learning System) that you may use to prepare for the certification exam on your own time, at your own pace. Our Chapter just purchased the latest addition! Please do not hesitate to contact me if you’d like to use it.
    • Or, if you want to form a study group, let me know and I will see who else in our Chapter might want to work with you to prepare for the exam.
    • If you prefer a classroom setting to prepare, you may consider Management Resource Association’s (MRA) classroom program. In addition, MRA has agreed to allow our chapter members to use the SHRM Learning System that our chapter owns when taking the classroom course; bringing the tuition down to $500 (versus $925 for an MRA member or $1,000 for a non-MRA member).     • If you’d like to study for the exam using an online preparation program, log onto the University of Minnesota website and read more: http://cce.umn.edu/shrm. Terri Morawiecki (612-625-4245 or mora0127@umn.edu) is the contact there; she manages the online HR Certification Test Preparation program.
